Running my solar battery system through last summer has changed the way I use electricity. I installed a growatt 100kw 48V Battery after getting tired of watching my evening utility bills jump whenever the air conditioner ran. I did not need that much capacity, but I wanted dependable solar energy storage and room to expand later.
The setup was more straightforward than expected. My installer mounted the battery cabinet in the garage, connected it to my hybrid inverter, and configured charging from the rooftop solar panels during the afternoon. I already had a smart meter, so the system could discharge automatically during peak hours. The only annoying part was waiting for the installer to balance the battery settings with my utility's time-of-use schedule. Once that was corrected, everything became pleasantly boring.
That boring behavior is exactly what I wanted. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by late afternoon. Around 4 p.m., the battery starts carrying the refrigerator, lights, internet equipment, and air conditioner. I can see the inverter's power flow change on the monitoring app, but I rarely need to touch anything. My peak-hour usage dropped sharply, and my monthly bill fell by roughly 35 to 45 percent, depending on the weather.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at my preferred evening time. The app showed a schedule error. I restarted the inverter, reselected the time-of-use profile, and it worked normally the next night. I now check the state of charge weekly, mainly out of curiosity, even now.
For me, the real win is using more of my own solar power instead of buying expensive peak electricity. The growatt battery has made that shift simple and surprisingly hands-off.
