Running our home battery system for six months has made our evening electricity use less stressful. Before installation, our rooftop solar panels sent excess power to the grid during the day, then we bought expensive electricity after dinner. Now the solar battery charges from midday production and runs the house through the peak period.
This is not a laboratory test; I notice it most when cooking. Our induction hob, oven, lights, and television can run together without pulling much from the grid. In the first month, our utility bill fell from roughly $180 to $112, despite similar weather and habits. The savings are not spectacular every day, because cloudy mornings leave less stored energy, but shaving those evening peak rates has been the biggest benefit.
Our installer recommended a graphene battery, and I was initially skeptical of the marketing. The important thing for me has been usable capacity, not the label. We chose a 10-kWh unit, which usually leaves about 20% reserve. The transfer took a few seconds, and the refrigerator never stopped during a brief outage in February.
My one minor troubleshooting moment came when the app showed zero solar battery discharge one evening. I checked the breaker and found the battery had entered backup reserve mode after a firmware update. A support chat explained that the update had raised the reserve setting from 20% to 40%. After lowering it again, discharge resumed. It was a small annoyance, but reassuring to solve without a service visit.
Overall, the system has not made us completely independent. We still buy power in winter and pay connection charges. Still, the setup has made our bills predictable and household calmer. I now check production before running the dishwasher, and I appreciate having stored energy available after sunset. For our home, that practical shift matters more than flashy specifications.
