I installed a 10-kWh lithium battery in my garage last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. My rooftop solar already covered most daytime use, but our oven, heat pump, and laundry pushed consumption into the utility’s peak hours. The battery changed that pattern immediately.

The installation was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter beside the electrical panel, added a battery cabinet, and configured it to charge from solar first. Our electric bill fell from $168 to $103, even though solar production was slightly lower than the previous month. The exact savings vary with weather, of course, but shifting peak-hour consumption has made the biggest difference.

I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the monitoring app showed the battery at 100 percent while the inverter was still pulling power from the grid. I panicked briefly, then checked the battery monitoring screen and found it was in a scheduled maintenance mode. The system resumed discharge that evening without any intervention.

Now I trust the battery, and my bill reflects that confidence month after month, including cloudy weather.
