I installed a 10-kWh lithium battery in my garage last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. My rooftop solar already covered most daytime use, but our oven, heat pump, and laundry pushed consumption into the utility’s peak hours. The battery changed that pattern immediately.
The installation was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter beside the electrical panel, added a battery cabinet, and configured it to charge from solar first. I spent an evening reading the giter lithium battery manual because I wanted to understand the backup settings instead of blindly trusting the app. That was worthwhile: the default reserve was 20 percent, which felt unnecessarily high for my needs. I raised it to 30 percent during storm season, but normally leave it at 15 percent.
My first full month gave me the clearest proof. The battery charged to 100 percent around midafternoon, then powered the house after sunset. Before installation, our evening usage averaged roughly 12 kWh from the grid during the billing period. Afterward, that dropped to about 3 kWh, mostly because the dishwasher, refrigerator, lights, and heat pump ran on stored energy. Our electric bill fell from $168 to $103, even though solar production was slightly lower than the previous month. The exact savings vary with weather, of course, but shifting peak-hour consumption has made the biggest difference.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the monitoring app showed the battery at 100 percent while the inverter was still pulling power from the grid. I panicked briefly, then checked the battery monitoring screen and found it was in a scheduled maintenance mode. The system resumed discharge that evening without any intervention.
Now I trust the battery, and my bill reflects that confidence month after month, including cloudy weather.
