Verifying my electricity bill each month has become strangely satisfying since I installed a solar battery in my garage. I also noticed a practical benefit during outages. We had a short storm-related blackout last winter, and the battery kept the refrigerator, modem, a few lights, and my gas furnace running. I did not try to run the clothes dryer or electric water heater; the system is much happier with sensible loads. That experience made me appreciate having a battery reserve more than seeing the app's daily energy charts.
My only minor troubleshooting moment came when the battery stopped charging one afternoon. The monitoring app showed a temperature warning, although the garage felt comfortable. I found that a ventilation fan near the inverter had tripped its plug after I moved a storage box. Resetting it cleared the warning, and charging resumed normally. Since then, I have left more space around the equipment and check the connections monthly.
Overall, this lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) storage system has been quiet, predictable, and useful.
