The setup was more straightforward than I expected. My installer mounted the battery, connected the cables, and configured the charge settings in an afternoon. I chose a conservative depth of discharge rather than squeezing out every last watt-hour. By sunset, the battery was usually around 95%, and the monitoring app showed it supplying the refrigerator, lights, my router, and sometimes the heat pump.

The biggest difference appears between 5:00pm and 9:00pm, when my utility charges the highest rate. Instead of pulling from the grid, the battery carries most of our normal household load. On a typical weekday, my evening consumption used to cost about $1.20; now it is closer to 35 cents, depending on whether we run the oven. That sounds small, but over a month it has covered roughly $25 to $35 of the battery payment.

I did have one mildly annoying hiccup. After a cloudy day, the battery stopped discharging at 42%, even though the app displayed plenty of usable capacity. I checked the inverter first, then found the backup reserve had accidentally been raised during a firmware update. Lowering that reserve restored normal operation the next evening. It was a good reminder that a solar battery system still needs occasional attention, not blind trust.

So far, the lithium iron phosphate chemistry has felt reassuring. The unit runs quietly, shows no swelling or heat, and has made our solar self-consumption noticeably higher. I still keep some grid power for winter, but peak-hour bill savings are now tangible to me.
