Nearly a year ago I added an enjoybot lifepo4 300ah battery to my small rooftop solar system mainly because our evening electricity use was eating up the savings. I was tired of exporting solar power cheaply during the afternoon and then buying it back at dinner time.

The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. I mounted the battery in a utility room beside the inverter, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and set the energy storage schedule to charge from solar first. My installer handled the electrical work and added a new breaker, while I spent an evening in the app setting a 20% backup reserve. That reserve has already proved worthwhile during two short outages; the refrigerator and internet stayed on without me dragging out extension cords.

The biggest everyday difference is peak-hour savings. On sunny days, the battery is usually full by early afternoon. It starts discharging around 4:30, when cooking, running the dishwasher, and turning on lights would normally pull from the grid. Before storage, my evening usage regularly reached 8 or 9 kilowatt-hours. Now it is often closer to 2, depending on the weather. My monthly bill has fallen by roughly 25% to 35%, not a magical zero, but enough to notice. The real benefit is using my own solar energy instead of selling it for a low export rate.

I did have one minor scare in winter. The battery stopped charging even though the panels were producing. The monitoring app showed a communication warning, so I checked the obvious things: the breaker was on, cables looked secure, and the inverter had power. After restarting the inverter, the battery reconnected within about five minutes. The installer later explained that a firmware update had left the connection stuck. Since then I have had no repeats at all.
