Every evening after dinner, I check my home battery before turning on the dishwasher. I installed a Deye hybrid inverter and lithium battery last spring, mostly to stop buying expensive grid power during peak hours. The setup was less intimidating than I expected. My installer handled the electrical work, while I spent an afternoon reading manuals and browsing the deye website for battery settings and monitoring explanations.
The first week, I kept checking the app every few hours. It showed solar charging the battery through the afternoon, then automatically switching to battery backup around 4 p.m. That simple schedule made the biggest difference to my bill. Instead of pulling electricity from the grid when rates climbed, the house ran on stored energy.
In June, my bill dropped from about $168 to $82, even though our air conditioner ran most afternoons. I am not pretending every month looks like that; cloudy weeks still require some grid electricity. But the peak-hour savings are obvious, especially when I cook, wash clothes, and charge my e-bike after sunset.
My one minor troubleshooting moment happened during a heat wave. The battery stopped discharging at the time I expected, and the app displayed a warning. I first assumed something serious had failed, but the inverter was simply protecting itself because the battery temperature was high. After improving airflow around the equipment and waiting for temperatures to drop, normal operation returned. I stay calm.
What I appreciate most is not total energy independence, but predictability. I can see my solar generation, state of charge, and daily consumption in one place. The battery also keeps our refrigerator, internet, and a few lights running during short outages. For me, that combination of lower electricity bills and practical backup power has made the Deye system feel worthwhile.
