I installed a 10-kWh home battery last spring after getting tired of watching my electricity bill jump every summer evening. My solar panels produced plenty during the day, but I was still buying expensive grid power between roughly 4 and 9 p.m. The storage battery has made that timing much less painful.
The installation itself was easier than I expected, although the electrician spent most of the afternoon checking my old consumer unit and setting up the inverter. The app showed the battery charging from solar around lunchtime and discharging after dinner, which was exactly the behavior I wanted.

Now the battery covers the oven, refrigerator, lights, and heat-pump circulation pump after sunset. My monthly bill has dropped from about $180 to $105, although weather and utility rates vary. That is roughly $75 saved in an average month, and I notice the benefit most during hot stretches when the air conditioner would otherwise run through the evening.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a cloudy day, the battery reached its reserve setting earlier than usual, and the app displayed a communication warning. I power-cycled the gateway once and checked the Wi-Fi connection; the warning cleared within a few minutes. It turned out the inverter had briefly lost contact after my router restarted. No battery reset or electrician visit was needed.
I still watch the state of charge on cloudy weekends, but I no longer obsess over peak pricing. My battery makes daytime solar useful after sunset indoors again.
