Early last summer, I installed a deye sun 2k g battery system beside my inverter, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. My solar panels already covered most daytime use, but after sunset the house started drawing from the grid just when rates climbed. That was the part I wanted to fix first.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. The battery arrived well packed, and my installer spent an afternoon checking cable sizes, breaker placement, and the monitoring connection. I chose a wall location in the garage where it stays dry and reasonably cool. The app showed battery state of charge, solar production, and household consumption in one place. Watching those numbers change in real time has been surprisingly useful; I finally understood how much power my refrigerator and water heater use overnight.
My biggest improvement is the evening bill. I programmed the battery to charge from solar during the day and discharge from 4:00pm until 10:00pm. On sunny days, it usually carries the essential loads through that whole window. Before storage, my monthly bill often jumped to around $180 during hot weather. Now it is closer to $110-$125, depending on air conditioning and cloudy days. The savings are not dramatic every month, but they are obvious when peak rates are high. I also like having backup power for short outages, although I do not treat this as a whole-home generator.
I did have one troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time. The app still displayed a healthy charge level, so I initially assumed the system was fine. I checked the operating mode and discovered the time zone had reset. Correcting that setting and restarting the inverter fixed it immediately. Since then, the solar battery has worked quietly.
