Every evening, I check my solar battery before I start cooking, and that small habit has become one of my favorite parts of owning a home energy storage system. We installed a deye inverter 6kw with a 10 kWh lithium battery last spring, mainly to avoid buying expensive grid electricity after sunset.
The biggest difference shows up between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. During those peak hours, the battery powers our induction hob, lights, television, and occasionally the washing machine. Before installation, those hours were when our electricity meter seemed to spin fastest. Now the inverter switches smoothly from solar charging during the afternoon to battery discharge in the evening. On a sunny day, our battery is usually full by 3 p.m., and the house runs almost entirely from stored solar until bedtime.
My monthly bill has fallen by roughly 35 to 45 percent, depending on weather and how much heating we use. That is not a perfect, dramatic zero-bill result, but it feels very practical. We are using our own electricity when the utility rate is highest, rather than exporting cheap excess solar and buying power back later at a premium. I also like seeing the battery state of charge on the monitoring app; it makes energy use much less abstract.
I did have one minor scare in the first month. The battery stopped discharging during a particularly cold night, even though the app showed plenty of charge. After checking the manual and contacting the installer, I learned the battery’s low-temperature protection had activated. Once the temperature rose, it resumed normally. Since then, I have kept the battery area better insulated and have had no repeat issue.
For me, it is not just backup power. It means predictable evening costs and confidence that our system is useful at home.
