catl lithium battery

After two years of watching my electricity bills climb, I finally added a home solar battery to my rooftop system. I chose a 10kWh unit built around a catl lithium battery, because the installer had support and the price was reasonable.

The biggest difference is what happens between 4pm and 9pm. Before storage, my panels produced plenty during the day, but I still bought expensive grid power after dinner. Now the battery charges from solar once panels have covered daytime needs, then runs our refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and induction cooker through the evening.

My utility plan has a time-of-use rate, so this shift has been noticeable. My monthly bill fell from $142 to $68 over the first three months, even though we had cloudy weeks. I am not pretending the battery paid for itself overnight; it did not. But the peak-hour savings make the investment feel practical, especially in summer when the air conditioner used to run late into the night.

I had one stressful moment in January. During a power outage, the battery stopped discharging after fifteen minutes. The app showed “backup reserve,” which I had set at 30%. Once I lowered that reserve to 15%, the backup circuit came back on. It turned out the system was protecting that reserve, not failing. I now keep 20% for emergencies and check the battery app every weeks rather than panicking.

What I appreciate most is that solar storage feels automatic after the initial setup. I rarely think about it, but I notice the quieter bills and the confidence that evening power is coming from sunlight I collected earlier. The battery also makes our household less exposed to rate increases, and that practical peace of mind has become almost as valuable as the monthly savings.
