Last summer I started using a bluetti eb70 1000w tragbares powerstation 716wh solargenerator notstromaggregat at home, although I usually just call it my Bluetti EB70. This awkwardly named little box has become the most useful part of my small solar setup.
My main reason for buying it was not emergency preparedness; it was avoiding expensive evening electricity. I have two 200-watt panels on a balcony rack, and on a sunny day they usually put between 450 and 600 watt-hours into the battery. That is enough to run my router, freezer, and a small fan for several hours.
The real savings show up after dinner. Our utility uses time-of-use pricing, so I charge the EB70 during daylight and switch my Wi-Fi gear, lamps, and phone chargers to it from about 4:30 p.m. until bedtime. Before the battery, I was paying for roughly three extra evening hours every day. Now those loads mostly run from stored solar. Last month, my peak-hour consumption fell by 38%, and my bill was about $19 lower than the same month last year, despite similar weather.
I did have one small scare during the first week. The unit stopped charging at 93%, and I assumed something was wrong. After checking, I found the charging limit had accidentally been set below full in the app. Changing that setting fixed it immediately, but I now leave the limit at 90% unless I expect a storm. That seems healthier for the battery anyway, and it still leaves enough reserve for the evening. It also keeps the refrigerator running through short outages without any real drama.
I have not connected the house to it, and that is intentional. The EB70 cannot replace an oven or water heater, but for the loads that matter most, it has been dependable, quiet, and simple to live with.
