Solution Solar Inverter -
Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Nearly six months ago, I added a home battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly to avoid buying expensive electricity in the evening. Before the battery, my solar panels produced plenty during the day, but we were still drawing from the grid after dinner when rates were highest. That always felt frustrating.
The setup includes a 10 kWh lithium solar battery, an anern inverter, and a monitoring app. Installation took most of a day because the electrician had to run new cables through the garage and install backup protection for selected circuits. I chose to keep the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and a few outlets running during an outage rather than trying to power the whole house.
The biggest difference has been my evening usage. On sunny days, the battery charges by early afternoon and begins discharging around 5 p.m. Now it usually carries us through cooking, lighting, television, and the dishwasher until bedtime. My monthly electricity bill has dropped from roughly $145 to between $55 and $75, depending on weather and air-conditioning use. The savings are most noticeable during hot weeks because the battery covers part of the peak-rate period.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first month. The battery stopped discharging even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I checked the basic settings and found that the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 80 percent, leaving only a small usable portion. Lowering that reserve to 25 percent solved it immediately. I now keep it at 30 percent so there is still protection during a power cut without wasting too much capacity.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. I rarely think about the battery unless I open the app and see how much grid power I avoided using. It has not eliminated my bill, but it has made solar power much more useful after sunset and made our household energy costs noticeably easier to manage.
