Solution Solar Inverter -
Solution LiFePO4 Battery Cell
Keeping our solar battery system running through the evening has changed the way I think about electricity bills. Last summer, I installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside my inverter, mainly to avoid buying power during peak hours. The installation was straightforward. My installer mounted the hybrid inverter, connected the battery, and set a reserve level of twenty percent. I chose twenty percent because short outages are common here, and I wanted a little backup left for the refrigerator and router.
The first week taught me that the battery does not magically create energy; it simply shifts my solar power to a better time. On sunny days, my panels fill it by early afternoon. Then the battery carries the house from about four until bedtime, when rates are highest. Before installation, I regularly saw evening usage push my bill over $180. Now, the same months have landed around $105 to $120. That is a real saving, not a promised laboratory number.
On cloudy days, I still notice the difference, although the battery may only reach fifty or sixty percent. I have learned to run the washing machine and dishwasher after lunch, while there is plenty solar available. That habit matters more than I expected, because it leaves stored energy for the expensive evening period.
My only real troubleshooting moment happened in January. The battery stopped discharging at night, even though its app showed a healthy charge. I found that a firmware update had reset the operating schedule to “solar only.” I restored the time-of-use setting, restarted the inverter, and everything worked normally. It took ten minutes, but I was glad I had not called someone immediately.
For emergencies, I keep an akumulator 12v bars setup with a controller, but the main battery handles things now.
