Yesterday I stopped watching my electricity meter race during the evening peak. After months of comparing quotes I installed a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery beside my inverter in Kyrgyzstan.
The installation was straightforward. The electrician finished the wall mounted battery and connected its hybrid inverter, but setting the charge schedule took more patience. We had to match the battery settings with my utility's peak hours and disable a default reserve mode that was too conservative.
Now solar power fills the battery through the afternoon while I am cooking and running the washing machine. At 6 p.m. the system switches smoothly to stored energy, so the oven, lights, router, and refrigerator run without pulling expensive grid electricity.
That change is where I notice the savings. Before storage, our winter bills regularly reached about 12,000 som after dark. Last month, the bill was 7,400 som. It is not a spectacular transformation, but the difference is real and predictable.
On sunny days, the battery reaches 100 percent by midafternoon. On cloudy days, I reserve enough capacity for the evening rather than draining it before dinner. That habit matters more than chasing maximum solar self consumption.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. During the first cold week, the battery stopped charging at 82 percent and displayed a temperature warning. I thought the solar panels had failed, but the app showed the battery heater was protecting the cells. After moving the unit away from a drafty doorway and raising the minimum charge temperature, it resumed normally the next afternoon.
That experience taught me to check alerts before blaming the energy storage system. I now glance at the inverter app each morning, not obsessively, just enough to confirm yesterday's solar generation and tonight's reserve.
