Over the past eight months, my solar battery has changed the way I use electricity at home. Before installing the Gobel battery box, I had solar panels but still bought plenty of power from the grid after dinner. That was especially annoying during expensive peak hours, when the oven, dishwasher, and heat pump were all running.
Now the battery charges from my rooftop solar through the afternoon, and it starts discharging automatically when our utility’s evening rate begins. I did not need to babysit it or change settings every day; the app shows the state of charge, but most evenings I simply glance at it and carry on cooking.
That simple shift has made the biggest difference to my bill. My monthly electricity cost used to hover around $180 in summer. Since adding battery storage, it has averaged about $105, even though we used the air conditioner regularly. I am not pretending the battery eliminated my bill; the fixed connection charge remains, and cloudy stretches still require grid electricity. But avoiding those high-rate evening kilowatt-hours is where I notice the savings.
One small troubleshooting moment happened during a storm. The system stopped discharging, and the monitoring app showed a communication warning. I first assumed something serious had failed, but the battery itself was still charged. After checking the internet router and restarting its connection, the warning cleared within a few minutes. It turned out to be a brief Wi-Fi issue, not a solar battery fault. I appreciated that the inverter continued supplying the house while the app was offline.
That detail gave me real confidence in the setup.
