8 months ago, I added a 10kWh LiFePO4 battery to my rooftop solar system. The main reason was simple: our evening electricity use was eating up most of the savings from solar. I wanted something practical, not another gadget.
The installer mounted the battery in the garage, beside the inverter, and ran a new cable to the main panel. The physical installation took a morning. I keep a “58.4v 10a ul lifepo4 battery charger” in the utility cabinet as a backup, although the solar inverter normally does the charging.

My favorite real-world lesson came during a heatwave. One afternoon, the monitoring app showed the battery at 100%, but the house was quietly pulling power from the grid. I checked the inverter and found it had switched to standby after a brief communication error. I power-cycled the communications cable, waited five minutes, and restarted the inverter. The system came back online, and the battery resumed discharging within a few minutes.
That small scare taught me to check the app weekly and keep the firmware current, instead of assuming everything is automatic. For me, the battery is useful because it reduces grid dependence anymore.
