Paying less during summer peak hours was the reason I finally added battery storage to my rooftop solar system. I live in a small house with a 5kW array and a grid-tied inverter, but our evening air conditioning used to erase much of the daytime savings. Before storage, my monthly summer bill averaged around $165. After two comparable sunny months, it was usually about $94, even with similar air conditioner use. That is roughly $70 saved monthly, though cloudy weeks reduce the benefit. I especially like seeing the battery state of charge climb.
One minor hiccup happened during a firmware update. The app temporarily reported zero watts from the battery, although the cabinet was clearly powered. I resisted resetting everything; instead, I checked the inverter screen and found a communication warning. The installer refreshed the settings remotely, and normal operation returned in about ten minutes. Since then, it has been boringly reliable. I clean the solar panels monthly and glance at the battery temperature, which has stayed normal.
