8 months ago I installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with a 48volt 380 volt inverter beside my existing rooftop solar system. I wanted to use more of my own electricity, not simply send afternoon power back to the grid for a small credit. The battery sits in my garage, and the installation took most of a day because the electrician had to reroute a cable and add a new breaker.
Before installation, my household usually hit expensive peak rates between 4 and 9 p.m. Now the solar panels charge the battery after lunch, and the stored energy runs the refrigerator, router, lights, and evening cooking load. During the first full month, my bill fell from about $186 to $103, even though we used the air conditioner several times. The next month was cloudier, so savings were closer to $54, but the battery still covered nearly every peak period.
My only real hiccup came during a long rainy weekend. The monitoring app showed the state of charge stuck at 18%, while the panels were producing a little power. I checked the obvious things first: no tripped breaker, no warning light, and the inverter was online. The installer eventually found that a conservative low-temperature charging setting had been left enabled after commissioning. He adjusted it remotely, and the battery began climbing normally the next afternoon. That small problem was frustrating, but support responded within an hour and I never lost household power.
After six months, I am still pleased with the solar battery. I have not needed to expand it yet, although our utility has raised peak prices again. My main advice is to compare your actual evening usage with the battery capacity, rather than buying the largest system available. For me, predictable peak-hour savings matter more than impressive ratings.
