8 months ago, I installed a 280ah solarbatterie in my garage, mainly to reduce the expensive evening electricity I was buying after the solar panels stopped producing. My household uses around 18–22 kWh a day, with the biggest loads coming between 5 and 9 p.m. when cooking, laundry, lights, and the heat pump all overlap.
The biggest improvement has been shifting that evening consumption to stored solar energy. On a sunny day, the battery usually reaches 95–100% by mid-afternoon. Once the utility peak period begins, my inverter automatically switches the house over to battery power. Before the battery, I regularly saw monthly bills around $180 during the hotter months. Since adding the solar battery, they have generally fallen to $95–$120, depending on weather and air-conditioning use. That is not a dramatic “free electricity” result, but it is a noticeable saving every month.
I also like seeing how much energy is available on the monitoring app. The 280ah solarbatterie typically covers our evening usage until bedtime, and I leave a reserve of about 20% so it is not completely drained overnight. On cloudy days, the solar panels may only recharge it partially, so I have learned not to run the dishwasher and washing machine at the same time.
I had one small troubleshooting moment during the first month. The battery stopped discharging because the inverter displayed a low-temperature warning. The garage was colder than expected overnight, and the battery management system had correctly paused operation to protect the cells. After improving the ventilation and moving the unit away from the exterior wall, the warning disappeared.
The system has been quiet, predictable, and easy to live with. For me, the practical benefit is not energy independence; it is using more of my own solar power and buying less electricity during peak-rate hours.
