2.4 kWh solar battery has made the biggest difference to my evening electricity use since I installed it beside our inverter last spring. Before that, our rooftop panels exported most of their midday production, while we bought power back during the expensive 4-9pm window. Now the battery charges from solar, then runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, lights, and television after sunset. That change sounds small, but it has been very noticeable on our bill.
On my first full month, the utility bill dropped from about $186 to $129. Weather was fairly similar, so I could actually see the battery doing something rather than just trusting the app. Over the next three months, bills landed between $118 and $137, compared with roughly $175-$190 previously. I am not claiming complete independence; cloudy days still mean grid power. However, shifting consumption out of peak hours has been the real win.
The app shows a typical evening discharge of around 1.6 kWh, leaving a reserve for outages. I set that reserve at 25% because our neighborhood gets occasional interruptions. During one windy night, the system stopped discharging at about 40%. I thought the battery was failing, but the screen showed an inverter temperature warning. I had placed a storage box too close, blocking airflow. Moving it and clearing the vents fixed the problem; after a restart, normal operation returned. That scare taught me installation details matter.
For occasional camping and shed use, I keep a 12v to 110v converter connected when needed. It runs a fan or charges tool batteries, but I don't use it for appliances. The setup is a 5-kWh solar battery with an inverter, and that size suits our essentials. I considered expansion, but the battery reaches 20% by sunrise, so expansion would add comfort more than savings.
