The setup was less intimidating than I expected: an electrician mounted the battery, connected it to my existing rooftop solar panels, and programmed the battery inverter to charge during the day and discharge after 4 p.m. I kept the old meter for comparison, which turned out to be useful.

Before battery storage, our kettle, induction cooker, television, and water pump all came on around dinner time. Those few hours pushed us into the utility's peak tariff. During the first full month with the solar energy storage system, our bill dropped from about $168 to $103. It is not a dramatic zero bill, but the $65 saving was real, and it repeated fairly closely over the next three months. On sunny days, the solar battery reaches full charge by midafternoon, then carries the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and television through the evening. I usually still have 20 to 30 percent capacity left at bedtime.

My only hiccup happened during a week of heavy rain. The battery state of charge fell to 18 percent, and the 1200va inverter began beeping whenever I switched on the microwave. I initially thought the battery had failed. The display actually showed overload protection: the microwave and kettle were drawing more power than that compact inverter could provide at once. I now run one appliance at a time, and the alarm has not returned. That small lesson mattered more than any brochure specification.

The system also keeps my lights, router, and laptop running during outages. I check the monitoring app occasionally, but the practical benefit is clearer: daytime solar now powers my evening routine, reducing peak-rate purchases every month with little daily effort.
