Solution Solar Inverter
2 months ago I added a 12 volt 300ah lithium
battery beside my inverter in the garage, replacing grid power
during evenings when our utility rates are highest each day.
My rooftop solar array already covered daytime appliances quite comfortably,
but after sunset we previously pulled everything from the grid.
Now the battery charges before noon and discharges after dinner.
That simple schedule has made the biggest difference to our bills.
In the first month, our electricity bill fell noticeably overall,
not magically to zero but roughly thirty-five dollars lower monthly.
That result matters because household uses most power after sunset.
I watch the battery monitor more than I expected, mornings.
It usually reaches full charge by lunchtime on summer days.
Weather is different and I learned to accept imperfect readings.
The inverter prioritizes household loads, then sends surplus into storage.
If clouds linger, we use less after dinner than usual.
That habit feels more useful than buying a larger battery.
My only hiccup happened during the first week of installation.
The battery stopped discharging overnight, although its display showed capacity.
I checked cables, restarted the inverter, and inspected the settings.
The installer had left a backup reserve at thirty percent,
so discharge was paused, not a hardware failure at all.
After lowering that reserve to twenty percent, everything worked normally.
I kept the higher setting during a storm, which felt reassuring.
That small lesson gave me confidence in the battery's controls.
I have not needed a generator since installing this system.
The lithium chemistry is quiet, compact, and requires no attention.
I just keep the panels clean and check connections seasonally.
For me, the best feature is steady household evening energy.
It shifts solar power into hours when rates hurt most.
That everyday saving is why I would choose storage again.
