0.8 kWh was the first number I noticed after installing my home solar battery storage system last spring. I chose a 1000V Battery DIY Kit because I wanted to keep the installation affordable and understand exactly how my energy moved through the house. My setup is fairly modest: rooftop solar panels, a hybrid inverter, and this lithium battery bank in the garage. I did the mounting and cable work myself, then had an electrician check the connections and commission everything. That final inspection was money well spent, especially for peace of mind around high-voltage DC wiring.
The biggest change has been during peak hours. Before storage, my air conditioner and cooking pushed grid consumption into the expensive evening period. Now the solar battery charges from midday production and carries us from about 4 p.m. until bedtime. On sunny days, I often see almost no imported electricity after dinner. My monthly bill has dropped from roughly $180 to $95, although weather and utility rates vary. That is around $85 saved per month, which feels much more tangible than watching production numbers in an app.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped discharging the battery at my scheduled evening time. The battery showed a healthy state of charge, but the house quietly pulled power from the grid. I eventually found that the update had reset the time-of-use schedule. Re-entering the hours fixed it, and I now check settings after every software update. It was not a dramatic failure, just a useful reminder that battery storage is still electrical equipment, not a completely hands-off appliance.
Overall, I am happiest with the predictable peak shaving. The solar battery gives me backup power during outages, but the bill savings are why it earns its space in my garage.
