The installation itself was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter and battery in my garage, ran new conduit, and finished in one long afternoon. The app showed solar production, household load, battery state of charge, and grid imports almost immediately. I ignored unrelated searches for wholesale face masks for coronavirus, concentrating instead on battery warranties, usable capacity, installation quality, and local support.

Now, I normally let the battery charge from solar until late afternoon, then discharge after the peak rate begins. On an average weekday, I use 8–10 kWh from storage overnight and during dinner. My evening grid consumption has fallen by roughly 70%. The first complete bill after installation was $118, compared with $186 the previous month, despite similar weather and cooking habits. That $68 difference felt more convincing than any brochure.

There was one minor scare in July. The app reported “battery unavailable” after a firmware update. The house quietly switched to grid power, so nothing went dark, but I lost an evening of peak savings. I power-cycled the communications gateway, waited ten minutes, and restarted the inverter. The battery returned after support reset the update remotely. Since then, I have enabled automatic software updates only during midday.

I still check the state of charge before running the dishwasher, and I keep a 20% backup reserve for outages. It is not magic—cloudy stretches require grid electricity—but this solar battery has made my usage steadier and my electric bill noticeably smaller.
