Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Every evening, I used to watch our electricity meter climb as soon as the utility’s peak-rate period started. Since installing a weize lifepo4 battery in our home solar setup, that routine has changed noticeably. I now save most of the solar power produced during the afternoon and use it between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when our electricity price is highest.
The setup was fairly straightforward for my installer. The battery sits in the garage beside the inverter, and the monitoring app shows its charge level, solar input, household load, and grid use. I like being able to check it from the sofa, although I still find the app’s graphs slightly confusing when the battery is charging and powering appliances at the same time.
Our normal pattern is simple. Solar panels run the refrigerator, computers, and other daytime loads first. Any extra energy charges the LiFePO4 battery. After sunset, the battery handles lights, the television, Wi-Fi equipment, and sometimes the washing machine. On a typical sunny day, it reaches nearly full capacity before dinner and drops to around 25–35% by bedtime. I leave some reserve for an outage rather than draining it completely.
The biggest practical benefit has been peak-hour bill savings. Before adding storage, our evening usage came directly from the grid. Now that portion is usually covered by stored solar energy. Based on the first several monthly bills, our electricity costs have fallen by roughly 25–30%, though the exact result depends heavily on cloudy weather and how much heating or air conditioning we use.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment when the battery stopped discharging overnight. The app showed a backup-reserve setting had accidentally been raised too high during a firmware update. Lowering the reserve restored normal operation immediately.
So far, the solar battery has made our system feel much more useful, not just greener. I especially appreciate having predictable evening power and less dependence on changing utility rates.
