Using the battery with our rooftop solar has changed how I think about evenings at home. Before we added storage, our panels often sent surplus power back to the grid during the day, then we bought electricity again after sunset, right when dinner, laundry, and the dishwasher were all running. Now the battery charges through the afternoon and carries much of that solar energy into the evening.

The biggest difference is visible in our peak-hour usage. I set the battery to prioritize the house from about five until bedtime, and on sunny days it covers most of our load. The grid still kicks in if we cook a big meal and run the dryer together, but those bursts are nothing like our old steady evening draw. Our bills haven't disappeared, and cloudy weeks remind me that the system isn't magic, but the lower peak consumption has made the total less painful.

One small learning curve was the battery's reserve setting. I initially left too much charge held back for backup, so we barely used it on ordinary evenings. After reading the app and adjusting the reserve to match our comfort level, we got more value while keeping a cushion for outages. The app makes it easy to see solar production, battery level, and household consumption, although I don't check it obsessively anymore.

I like that the setup works in the background. There is no routine beyond glancing at the charge before a storm or an unusually cloudy stretch. For our household, pairing rooftop solar with a home battery has been a practical way to use more of what we generate ourselves. The savings feel steady rather than dramatic, and that is exactly what I wanted. Overall, it's been a superb upgrade for how we actually use electricity.
