Pulling power from my roof after sunset has changed how I think about electricity. Last summer I installed an spf 5000tl LiFePO4 Battery with my existing solar panels, and the biggest difference has been using stored energy during the expensive evening hours.
Before the battery, my inverter switched to grid power around 5:30. By dinner time, lights, cooking, and the heat-pump water heater were all drawing from utility electricity. Now the battery usually carries the house from late afternoon until about 10:30, depending on how sunny the day was. I keep the reserve at 25%, which gives me some backup without constantly worrying about emptying it. My monthly bill dropped from roughly $180 to $105 over the first few full months. It's not a miracle—cloudy weeks still hurt—but peak rate usage is noticeably lower.
The most satisfying routine is checking the app in the morning. It shows solar charging the battery, then discharge beginning when our utility rate rises. I can see the difference clearly: on a sunny day, my household consumed about 18 kWh, with only 2 kWh imported from the grid. That feels more useful than simply watching panels produce power while I still buy expensive electricity at night.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time and sat at 100%. I initially thought the LiFePO4 battery had failed, but the inverter had reverted to a backup-only setting. Changing it back to self-use restored normal operation. The support technician also reminded me to check the communication cable before blaming the storage unit.
That small lesson aside, the system has been quiet and predictable. I now run laundry and dishwasher after sunset without watching the meter nervously. For me, the win is control.
