The battery charges from excess solar production through the afternoon, then starts feeding the house when the utility rate rises at 4:00pm. Before installation, that window was when we used the most power: cooking, laundry, the heat pump, and television all competed for expensive grid electricity. Now the battery handles most of it automatically, without me remembering to press anything.

My monthly bill used to hover around $180, although it varied with weather. During the first full month with storage, it fell to $74, and the next month, which was cloudier, was $96. I am not claiming the battery eliminated my bill; the panels still do most of the work, and there are fixed utility charges. Still, avoiding peak-hour electricity has been the clearest financial benefit.

The only hiccup so far happened during a particularly hot week. One evening, the monitoring app showed the battery at 18%, even though the sun had been strong. I checked the inverter and found a tripped breaker on the battery circuit. After resetting it and waiting a few minutes, charging resumed normally. I later learned the breaker had tripped during a brief voltage fluctuation, not because the storage unit was failing. Since then, I have glanced at the status light after storms, which feels like a reasonable habit rather than a chore.

What I appreciate most is the quiet operation. I barely notice it switching between solar charging, battery discharge, and grid backup. It kept our refrigerator running during two short outages, giving me confidence in storage.
