I installed a microtek solar battery system last summer, mainly because my evening electricity bills were becoming frustrating. My rooftop panels produced plenty of power during the day, but once the sun went down, we relied on expensive grid electricity for cooking, fans, and air-conditioning. The battery storage changed that routine almost immediately.
The setup was less complicated than I expected. The installer connected the lithium battery to the existing solar inverter, added the monitoring app, and explained the backup settings. I chose to keep about 20 percent reserve capacity for power cuts, while using the remaining charge during peak hours. The first few days were mostly about watching the app and learning how our household consumed energy.
The biggest practical difference is what happens after sunset. On a normal sunny day, the battery reaches full charge by mid-afternoon. Around 6 p.m., it begins supplying the house instead of drawing from the grid. We usually run lights, the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a television from stored solar energy. On hotter evenings, it also handles our bedroom air-conditioner for several hours. Our peak-hour usage has dropped noticeably, and my monthly bill is now roughly 30 to 40 percent lower than before, depending on the weather.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a cloudy day, the battery seemed to stop discharging at 45 percent. I initially thought something was wrong, but the app showed that backup reserve mode had been activated after a brief outage. I changed the setting back, and normal operation resumed.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic performance. I do not have to switch appliances manually or think about the battery constantly. It simply stores daytime solar power and makes that energy available when electricity costs more. For our home, the system is not about complete independence; it is about using more of our own solar energy, reducing peak-hour bills, and having dependable backup power when the grid becomes unreliable.
