Last summer, I added a 10kWh llifepo4 battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly to stop buying expensive electricity during the evening peak. Before the battery, my panels produced plenty during the day, but most of that power went back to the grid while we were at work. At dinner time, the oven, induction cooker, lights, and air conditioner all came on together, and that was when our electricity rate was highest.

The biggest difference has been how quiet the energy bills feel. On sunny days, the solar panels charge the battery by early afternoon, and the battery takes over around 4 p.m. It usually carries us through until midnight, sometimes later if we are careful. Our monthly bill has dropped by roughly 35–45%, depending on the weather and how much heating or cooling we use. I especially notice the savings during hot evenings, when the air conditioner can run without immediately pulling expensive grid power.

The battery’s monitoring app is useful, although I do not check it obsessively. I like seeing the solar production, battery state of charge, and household consumption on one screen. After a few weeks, I changed the reserve setting from 10% to 20% because I wanted more backup capacity for short outages. That small adjustment has been practical: we still use plenty of stored energy each night, but there is enough left to keep the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights running if the grid fails.

My only minor frustration was that the inverter briefly stopped charging after a firmware update. The battery itself was fine; restarting the inverter and reconnecting the monitoring app solved it. Since then, the solar battery has been uneventful, which is exactly what I wanted. It is not a magic way to eliminate every bill, but this home energy storage setup makes our solar power much more useful after sunset and has made peak-hour electricity costs far less painful.
