Solution Solar Battery
I installed a lithium ion battery 80ah storage unit last spring, mainly to stop buying so much electricity during the evening peak. My solar panels already covered most daytime use, but after sunset I was still pulling power from the grid when cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging phones. That was the expensive part of my bill.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. The installer mounted the solar battery beside the inverter, connected it to the home energy monitor, and showed me how to set a reserve level. I keep about 20% capacity in reserve for outages, while the remaining energy is available for evening use. On a sunny day, the battery usually reaches full charge by mid-afternoon. Around 5 p.m., it starts supplying the house automatically, so I rarely notice the changeover.
The savings have been most noticeable during hot weeks when the air conditioner runs after work. Before adding battery storage, my evening consumption pushed me into the highest tariff period. Now the battery handles much of that load. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly 25% to 35%, depending on weather and how often we use the heat pump. It is not a magic bill-eliminator, but the difference is clear.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. One morning the energy app showed the battery at 0%, even though the inverter display showed 18%. I checked the battery connections and restarted the monitoring gateway, but the readings still disagreed. The installer found that a firmware update had interrupted communication between the battery management system and the app. The stored power was fine; only the reporting was wrong. Since the update, the solar battery monitor has been reliable.
What I like most is using my own solar power later instead of sending excess energy away during the day. The battery has made my solar setup feel more practical, especially during peak hours, and I am considering adding another storage module before next summer.
