I installed a 10 kWh lithium solar battery last spring, mainly because our electricity bills were getting painful during the evening peak period. My rooftop solar panels already covered most daytime use, but we were still buying power between 5 and 9 p.m., when everyone was home, cooking, showering, and running the heat pump.
The biggest practical change has been shifting that evening demand to stored solar energy. On a sunny day, the battery usually reaches 95–100% by mid-afternoon. The inverter then carries the house through dinner and the first part of the night. Before installation, our average daily grid usage was around 18 kWh. Now it is often closer to 5 or 6 kWh. Our monthly bill dropped from roughly $210 to between $95 and $125, depending on weather and heating use. That saving has been more noticeable than any app feature or technical specification.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment during the first month. The battery stopped charging at about 82%, even though the panels were producing normally. The monitoring app showed no serious fault, so I checked the settings and discovered the battery temperature sensor was reading unusually high after the unit had been sitting in direct afternoon sun. I added a simple shade cover with plenty of ventilation, restarted the system, and charging returned to normal the next day. I also keep a lithium battery charger 43v 3a as a backup for careful maintenance charging, although I have not needed it for an emergency yet.
The system has been quiet and predictable overall. I watch the state of charge more than I expected, especially before cloudy weekends, but the automatic battery management does most of the work. For me, the real value is not total energy independence; it is using my own solar power when electricity is most expensive. The battery has made our solar setup feel useful after sunset, not just impressive on a sunny afternoon.
