I installed a 10-kWh LiFePO4 battery beside my inverter last spring, after watching our evening electricity use climb every month. The solar panels already covered most daytime consumption, but once the sun went down, we pulled power from the grid during the expensive peak window. My main goal was simple: store the cheap midday solar and use it after dinner.
The installer handled the wiring and battery management system setup in one day, although I spent the evening checking the monitoring app. For the first week, I kept comparing the app’s battery discharge graph with my smart-meter readings. It was satisfying to see the battery charge to 100% by lunchtime, then carry the house through the 4pm to 9pm peak period without importing much electricity.
Before installation, my typical winter evening bill was about $4.20 a day. Now it averages closer to $1.60, depending on cooking, heating, and whether the panels got enough sun. This works out to roughly $75 to $90 saved, and a little less in cloudy months. I know savings will vary with utility rates, but the difference is obvious on my bill.
I also like having backup power, though that was not the reason I bought the solar battery. One night, the system stopped discharging at 18% state of charge. I initially panicked, assuming the battery had failed. A look at the lifepo4 описание page in the manual was not especially useful to me, since I do not read Russian, but the wiring diagram and fault code in the app pointed to a temperature protection setting. I had left the battery cabinet door slightly open during a cold snap, and the sensor was reading just below its configured limit. After closing the vents and warming the utility room, the battery resumed normal operation the next morning.
