Solution Solar Battery
I installed a 10 kWh LiFePO4 solar battery last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid. My rooftop panels produce plenty during the day, but our household usually needs the most power after dinner. Before the battery, that mismatch showed up painfully on my monthly bill.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in my garage, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and configured charging from solar first, with grid charging disabled. I spent an afternoon watching the monitoring app and checking whether the battery state of charge matched reality. The app was occasionally slow, but the energy meter confirmed that the battery was actually doing the work.
My favorite change is peak-hour savings. Around 4 p.m., the battery begins covering the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and induction hob. It usually carries the house until bedtime, then leaves roughly 25 to 35 percent reserve for outages. On sunny days, I reach full charge by early afternoon, so the remaining solar gets exported. On cloudy days, the battery still reduces grid imports, although I avoid running the washing machine and heat pump together in the evening. That simple habit has mattered more than I expected.
I also became slightly obsessed with the lifepo4 spannungskurve. I originally expected the voltage to fall steadily, but LiFePO4 batteries hold a surprisingly flat voltage through most of their usable capacity. Watching voltage alone made me think the battery was barely discharging, so I learned to trust the battery management system and state-of-charge reading instead.
After six months, my electricity bill is about 30 percent lower with the same appliances. I check connections visually. For me, the biggest benefit is seeing lower evening usage. It feels boring most days, which is exactly what I wanted.
