I installed my home solar battery system after paying the highest electricity rates between 4:00pm and 9:00pm. The setup was simpler than I expected. I power-cycled the communications gateway, checked the breaker, and found the system had simply reached its temperature limit on a very hot afternoon. Once the garage cooled, it resumed normally. That small scare taught me to check the operating temperature before assuming something had failed.
After several months, I appreciate the battery most during dinner and outages. I do not think about kilowatt-hours every day anymore; I just notice quieter bills and less dependence on the grid. The solar battery has not eliminated my electricity costs, but it has made them far more predictable.
