Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Before installing my solar battery, I was mostly interested in one question: would it actually lower our evening electricity bill, or would it just look impressive on the garage wall? After six months, I can finally answer that with some confidence. The 10kWh lithium iron phosphate unit has changed how we use the power our rooftop panels produce.
My installer mounted the battery beside the inverter and connected it during a single afternoon. The physical installation was straightforward, but commissioning took longer because the monitoring app needed a firmware update. I also spent time checking the charge limits and backup reserve rather than accepting the default settings. I set a 20% reserve, enough for overnight essentials without sacrificing much usable capacity.
The biggest difference appears after dinner. Before storage, our heat pump, dishwasher, and induction hob pulled expensive grid electricity between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. Now the battery discharges through those peak hours, while solar energy collected earlier in the day does the work. On sunny days, the battery reaches 100% by midafternoon, and our evening consumption usually stays inside the stored energy. Our utility statement dropped by roughly 35%, though winter cloudy weeks are less dramatic.
I had one small scare during the first cold weekend. The app showed the battery at 2% even though the reserve was set to 20%. I checked the cables, restarted the inverter, and discovered a communication warning from the jbd bms. The battery itself was fine; a loose network plug had interrupted data between the battery and inverter. After reseating it, the state of charge immediately looked normal.
That moment taught me not to panic at every app alert. I now check the battery dashboard weekly, and I am considering a second module before next summer, when air conditioning will increase demand. Predictable savings matter more than flashy technical specifications for our entire household.
