invt inverter

Nearly two years ago I added a home battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. Before that, my panels produced plenty during the day, but most of it went back to the grid while our family used power after dinner.

The setup was straightforward. The installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to an invt inverter, and configured a simple schedule: charge from solar until late afternoon, then discharge during the utility’s peak window. I watched the app obsessively for the first week, but honestly there was little to do after commissioning. The system switched between solar battery power and grid power without lights flickering or appliances complaining.

The biggest change shows up on my bill. In summer, our evening usage used to push the daily total higher. Now the battery usually carries the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television through dinner and the first part of the night. My utility statement is typically $35–$50 lower per month, depending on weather and air-conditioning use. That is not a magical zero bill, but it has made the investment feel practical. The battery also lets me use more of my own solar energy instead of exporting it cheaply during the afternoon.

One hiccup happened after a firmware update. The battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time for two evenings. I checked the monitoring screen, found the operating mode had reverted to backup-only, and changed it back to self-consumption. The installer confirmed the reserve setting had not been lost. Since then, performance has been consistent.

I still keep a reserve for outages rather than emptying the battery every night. For me, the value is predictable peak-hour savings and actually using more of my own solar power.
