Nearly six months ago, I added an inverex power wall supercapacitor battery to my rooftop solar setup, and the biggest difference has been what happens after sunset. Before the installation, I sent plenty of solar energy back to the grid during the day, then bought electricity back during the expensive evening hours. My solar battery now charges around lunchtime and runs the house through dinner, which has made peak-hour bill savings noticeably better.
I usually get home around 6:30 p.m. The battery is already covering the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television. On a normal summer evening, it still has plenty left when we go to bed. My utility bill dropped by roughly 25% compared with the same months last year, despite using the air conditioner more. It’s not a dramatic overnight transformation, but the lower evening consumption is easy to see in my daily monitoring app.
The one hiccup came during the first week. One morning, I noticed the battery had stopped discharging at 8 p.m. even though its reserve setting was 20%. I checked the inverter display and found a software update waiting. After installing it and restarting the inverter, the discharge schedule worked normally again. I also raised the reserve to 25% because we occasionally lose power during storms.
Installation was straightforward, but the installer did need to reinforce a wall for the battery cabinet. It is mounted in my utility room, close to the main panel, and the system is quiet enough that I barely notice it. The only sound is a cooling fan when charging on a bright day.
For me, the value of home energy storage is not chasing energy independence. It is using more of my own solar power and avoiding the costliest grid hours. After six months, that's an improvement I can see every month.
