Using my solar battery after dark has changed the way I think about our electricity bill. Before installing the system, our evening usage was the expensive part of the day: cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging devices all happened during peak-rate hours. Now, the battery stores excess power from our rooftop panels and supplies most of the house after sunset.
The setup includes a 10 kWh home battery, rooftop solar panels, and a huawei solar inverter. Installation took most of a day, mainly because the electrician had to check the main panel and install the backup circuit. The app was connected before the installer left, although I spent the first week checking it far too often. I liked seeing the battery charge during lunchtime and then gradually discharge while we used the oven and washing machine later.
The biggest practical difference is our peak-hour bill. On sunny days, the battery usually carries us through the entire expensive evening period. In the first full month, our electricity bill dropped by about 35 percent compared with the same month the previous year, despite similar weather and household habits. It is not magic savings every day. Cloudy weather and winter production still mean we buy some grid power, but the battery has noticeably reduced those costly evening purchases.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. After checking the settings, I discovered the backup reserve had been raised accidentally during a software update. Lowering that reserve restored normal operation immediately. Since then, I have left a sensible reserve for outages and stopped constantly changing settings.
For me, the value is less about energy independence and more about using my own solar electricity when I actually need it. The solar battery has made our usage feel more predictable, and the daily monitoring has helped us become more aware of waste without making life inconvenient.
