Running my home on solar storage has changed the way I think about electricity bills. I installed a growatt spf 5000 es inverter with a 10 kWh lithium battery last summer, mainly to avoid buying expensive grid power during the evening peak.
The setup was fairly straightforward, although I did spend an afternoon checking cable sizes, battery settings, and the inverter manual twice. I’m not an electrician, so a qualified installer handled the final connections and safety checks. Once everything was switched on, the solar panels charged the battery through the day while we used normal appliances. After sunset, the battery took over automatically.
The biggest difference showed up between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. That used to be our costly period because we cooked dinner, ran the dishwasher, and sometimes used the air conditioner. Now the battery supplies most of that load. On sunny days, the house often reaches bedtime with plenty of stored energy left. My monthly electricity bill has dropped by roughly 35–45%, depending on weather and how much heating or cooling we use. I still import power during several cloudy winter days, but the peak-hour savings are noticeable.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening even though its display showed a healthy charge level. After checking the settings, I found the minimum battery state of charge had been set too high. Lowering that reserve slightly fixed the issue, and I now keep a larger backup reserve before storms.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. There’s no daily button pressing, and the battery management system makes the transition between solar, storage, and grid power feel seamless. I’m considering adding another battery eventually, but for our current household, this solar battery setup already gives practical savings and much better control over energy use.
