Solution Solar Battery
Replacing our old grid-only setup with a home solar battery changed my evening routine more than I expected. Before installation, our rooftop panels produced plenty during the day, but we still bought expensive electricity after dinner. I chose a 10kWh lithium battery paired with a growatt 4kw inverter because the installer said it would cover our overnight load without making the system unnecessarily large.
The best part has been peak-hour savings. I set the battery to charge from solar first and discharge between 4 and 9 p.m., when our utility rate is highest. On sunny days, the battery usually reaches full charge by mid-afternoon. It then runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and sometimes our washing machine after sunset. Our monthly bill fell from roughly $185 to $92 over the first three comparable months. That is not a dramatic claim for every season—winter is obviously weaker—but the difference is noticeable in the budget.
I also had one troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging at the scheduled time. The inverter app showed normal status, which was confusing. I power-cycled the system using the shutdown sequence, waited a few minutes, and restarted it. The schedule worked that evening. Customer support confirmed the battery state-of-charge settings had reset during the update, so I saved a screenshot of my preferred settings afterward.
Day to day, the system is quiet and mostly invisible. I check the monitoring app with my coffee, mainly to see whether solar production, battery state of charge, and household consumption look sensible. I have not noticed any loss of comfort: we use the same appliances, just with less grid power. The battery does not eliminate my electricity bill, but it makes the expensive hours much less painful, which is exactly why I would install one again.
