Running my house on solar after sunset has changed the way I think about electricity. Last summer I installed a growatt 20000ue LiFePO4 Battery alongside my rooftop PV system, mainly to avoid buying power during our expensive evening tariff window.
During the day, my solar panels usually fill the battery to around 90% or 95%. By 6:00 p.m., cooking and air conditioning would normally push our grid use up, but now the inverter draws from stored energy first. That simple change has made the biggest difference on my bill.
Before installation, my summer electric bill often landed near $210. Since adding this home energy storage system, it has averaged about $132, despite two hotter months. The battery does not eliminate grid electricity entirely—cloudy days and winter still matter—but the peak-hour savings are obvious. I estimate I save roughly $60 to $75 monthly in summer, which makes the solar battery feel worthwhile rather than just impressive on paper.
My only hiccup came in January. One morning the monitoring app showed the battery at 0% even though the panels had produced plenty the previous afternoon. The inverter had entered standby after a brief grid outage, and it did not resume charging automatically. I switched the system off at the breaker, waited about a minute, and restarted it. The state of charge returned to normal, and Growatt's support confirmed the firmware needed updating. After installing that update, the battery has recovered normally after two later outages. That small lesson taught me to check firmware and keep the manual shutdown steps nearby.
Day-to-day, I barely notice the LiFePO4 battery running. It is quiet in the utility room, and I often check the app. The real win is predictable peak-hour bill savings and a backup reserve without daily attention when rates are highest.
