Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Running our home solar battery through a full summer changed the way I think about electricity. We have rooftop solar, a 10 kWh lithium battery, and a growatt 10kw inverter. Before the battery, our panels produced plenty during the day, but we still bought expensive power after dinner when the air conditioner was running.
The biggest difference has been peak-hour savings. I set the battery to charge from solar during the afternoon and discharge from about 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. On sunny days, it usually carries our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and one air-conditioning unit through the evening. My daily grid usage has dropped from roughly 18–22 kWh to 6–10 kWh, depending on the weather and how hard we run the AC. Our electricity bill fell by about 35 percent compared with the same months last year. It is not a miracle—the battery still empties on cloudy days—but watching the energy monitor has made the savings very tangible.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging one evening even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. After checking the settings, I found the backup reserve had been raised accidentally during a firmware update. I lowered the reserve from 30 percent to 15 percent, and discharge resumed normally. Since then, I check the operating mode after updates rather than assuming everything stayed unchanged.
What I appreciate most is the quiet routine. There is no noise or daily maintenance, and the battery automatically switches over when the grid goes down. I am still learning how to balance battery depth of discharge, backup capacity, and long-term battery health, but the solar-plus-storage system already feels practical. For my household, the growatt 10kw inverter and home energy storage setup are earning their space by reducing peak electricity purchases every day for us.
