grade a brand new 3.2v 280ah

Running my home battery system through a full summer has changed how I think about electricity. I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 solar energy storage battery last spring.

Before the installation, my rooftop solar exported a lot at midday, while I came home around 6:30 p.m. and immediately started cooking, washing clothes, and running the heat pump. That was exactly when the electricity rate jumped. Now the battery charges from solar after breakfast and usually reaches 100% by early afternoon. At 4 p.m., I set it to discharge automatically. By bedtime, it has covered most of my cooking, washing machine, router, and refrigerator load.

My bill dropped by roughly 35%. The bigger win is that I can see the savings every day in the inverter app. On sunny days, I often use almost no grid electricity between 4 and 9 p.m.

I built the pack around a grade a brand new 3.2v 280ah LiFePO4 cell configuration, with a BMS and busbars. I was nervous about doing this myself, but careful compression, fusing, and insulation mattered more than I expected. I had one small troubleshooting scare: the battery stopped discharging at night. The BMS app showed low temperature protection, even though the room felt comfortable. I found one sensor cable had loosened while I was tidying the enclosure. After reconnecting it and restarting the inverter, the system worked normally.

I have not expanded yet, but I left space for another battery module. For now, the existing solar battery gives me practical backup during short outages, keeps the lights and internet running, and takes pressure off the grid. It has not made electricity free, yet the combination of self-consumption and peak-hour bill savings makes the investment feel worthwhile. My main advice is to size storage around your evening load, not just your solar panel capacity.
