Originally, I installed my goodwe battery last spring after getting tired of watching our electricity bill jump every evening. The solar panels already produced plenty during the day, but we were exporting that energy cheaply and buying it back at peak rates after dinner. The battery changed that routine almost immediately.
Our system is a 10kWh home battery, paired with a hybrid inverter. I chose a wall-mounted setup in the garage, where it stays surprisingly quiet. Installation took most of a day. The electrician explained the backup settings clearly, and I set it to reserve 25% for outages. That small reserve has already proved useful during two short winter blackouts.
The biggest difference appears between 4:00pm and 9:00pm. My battery starts charging around midday from excess solar power, then discharges when the panels stop producing. We run the refrigerator, dishwasher, lights, Wi-Fi, and occasionally the heat pump from stored energy. Before installation, my household used roughly 18–20 kWh from the grid each evening in summer. Now that figure is usually 3–5 kWh. Based on my utility statements, that cuts about $2.50–$3.50 per day during high-rate months, or roughly $75 to $100 monthly.
I did have one mildly frustrating troubleshooting moment. One morning the app showed the battery at 0% even though the previous afternoon had been sunny. I checked the breaker first, then noticed a firmware update had paused charging. After restarting the inverter and waiting about ten minutes, the state of charge returned to normal. Since then, I check the monitoring app once a week and keep automatic updates enabled. I also learned not to judge performance from one cloudy day; weather and reserve settings make daily numbers bounce.
What I appreciate most is control: I use less grid electricity during expensive hours, and outages feel manageable.
