deye 2000

Early last summer, I installed a deye 2000 battery alongside my rooftop solar system, and the biggest difference showed up after dinner. Before the battery, my house would pull expensive grid electricity from around 4:00 p.m. until bedtime, even though the panels had produced plenty during the day. Once I added the solar battery, it began charging from surplus energy and running the refrigerator, router, lights, and heat-pump water heater during those peak-rate hours.

My utility bill used to land near $190 in the hottest months. After changing to a time-of-use plan and setting a reserve level of 20%, the last two bills were $118 and $124. That is not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison because weather varies, but the evening discharge is clearly doing most of the work. I especially notice it when the air conditioner runs after sunset; the inverter shows the battery supplying power instead of quietly importing it from the grid.

At first I worried the battery would be complicated. The physical installation took most of a morning, and my installer mounted the inverter in the garage, connected the battery cabinet, and added the monitoring app. The app is useful but not flawless. One evening it reported a communication fault while the battery was actually at 61%. I power-cycled the Wi-Fi bridge, not the battery itself, and the reading returned within a few minutes. I later moved the bridge closer to the router, and it has stayed connected since.

The practical lesson for me is that battery capacity matters less than how it is scheduled. I would rather have enough storage to cover my predictable evening load than buy a huge system that sits partly unused. On sunny days the deye 2000 reaches full charge by mid-afternoon, and I usually wake up with 15–20% remaining.
