After six months of using my home solar battery, I finally understand why I kept checking the app every evening. My rooftop panels charge a 10 kWh battery during the day, and I use that stored energy after sunset instead of buying expensive grid electricity. The unit uses catl lithium iron phosphate cells, which was important to me because I wanted a chemistry known for safety and a long cycle life.
Installation was less disruptive than I expected. The installer mounted it in my garage, connected the inverter, and spent a couple of hours explaining the monitoring app rather than leaving me with a confusing manual.
The biggest difference shows up between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., when my utility's time-of-use rate is highest. Before the battery, I would run the dishwasher and cook dinner straight from the grid, and those five hours quietly inflated my bill. Now I schedule the battery to discharge then. On a sunny day, it usually covers our evening lights, refrigerator, Wi-Fi, television, and most of the cooking.
My monthly electricity bill dropped from roughly $185 to $105 over the summer, although I know weather and utility rates affect that comparison. That $80 difference feels more useful than an abstract efficiency percentage because I see it in my bank account.
I did have one small scare during a cloudy week. The app showed the battery at 18 percent, but it was not discharging during a peak period. I checked the settings and discovered I had accidentally enabled backup-only mode while testing the outage feature. After switching back to self-consumption mode, the inverter resumed normally within a few minutes.
That moment taught me to understand the operating modes instead of blaming the solar battery. I keep a reserve for outages, and check the battery's state of charge.
