I installed a 10 kWh lithium solar battery last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive electricity in the evening. Before that, my rooftop panels produced plenty of power during the day, but I still pulled electricity from the grid after dinner when our rates were highest. That felt wasteful, especially because our cooking, laundry, and heat-pump use all happen between 5 and 9 p.m.
The difference was noticeable from the first full month. On sunny days, the panels charge the battery by early afternoon, and the battery takes over when the solar production drops. The battery warmed up later in the day and resumed charging normally. I eventually moved it to a warmer utility area and have not seen the problem again.
