My biggest surprise after installing a home solar battery was how much less I thought about electricity. Before the system, I watched the utility app nervously whenever evening rates climbed. I set the inverter to reserve 20% backup and discharge between 4:00pm and 9:00pm, when grid electricity costs more here. On sunny days, I often finish dinner without drawing from the grid. On cloudy days, the battery still covers the expensive first part of the evening.
What I appreciate most is the quiet, boring reliability. There is no fuel, noise, or daily maintenance. I glance at the solar monitoring app each morning, but I no longer obsess over it. During one brief outage, my lights and refrigerator stayed on, which convinced me the backup value was real, not just a line on the sales sheet. I am considering adding another battery for longer winter backup power.
